This week, we’re taking advice from a team at the University of Ottowa who have just published results of ‘the first mathematical analysis of an outbreak of zombie infection’ which concludes that ‘an outbreak of zombies infecting humans is likely to be disastrous unless extremely aggressive tactics are employed against the undead’. In the interests of empirical research, rampART investigators are on the lookout for individuals that ‘move in small, irregular steps, show signs of physical decomposition such as […] discoloured eyes’ and ‘allegiance to political parties’ for a series of analytical workshops employing a variety of extremely aggressive tactics. Meanwhile, back at the crypt….
We’re kicking off the weekend on Friday with a fundraiser for Climate Camp action in the city at the end of the month. And join us on Saturday for our first Sound Foundation party to raise money for a Solidarity Not Charity project working with Burmese community groups and celebrate the birthday of the oldest living member of the rampART collective (not counting the zombies). Reggae and dubstep Djs + 52 Commercial Road.

//CLIMATE CAMP 09 SUMMER SWOOP///
On Wed 26th August, the Camp for Climate Action will take back the city of London in a massive public swoop. Everyone is welcome to join us, as we converge on the secret location where the camp will rise. This summer, we are swooping together, and together we will transform a part of London into the physical manifestation of our desired worlds.
WHAT: We’ll get ready to swoop from scattered locations around London. We’ll be roaming about, seeing who we can pick up along the way.
There’ll be twists, turns, sneaking and outreaching. Then when the time is right, you’ll receive a message revealing the secret location of the camp, and the race will be on!
WHEN: Be ready and waiting in London, from 12 noon on Wed 26th August.
WHERE: We’ll gather at multiple, as yet undisclosed meeting points around the city. Subscribe to the climate camp newsletter and the SMS service to find out where the meeting points will be…
SMS SERVICE: http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/swoop-update
FACEBOOK: Join the Facebook swoop group.
For now, we’ll have to keep you in the dark a little. But it’s going to be amazing, so make sure you get signed up!
HOW: The exact location of the camp will be announced in three different ways. Sign up to the text message service, or if you can get twitter on your phone, join http://twitter.com/climatecamp . We’ll also send an email to the climate camp email list.
WHO: Everyone is welcome, and even if you’ve never been to a climate camp, you’ll find it easy to join in! To be successful we need massive numbers, so please arrive with as many of your friends as possible.
Tell everyone you know! The camp is organised into neighbourhoods, and your neighbourhood is probably already planning to swoop together, so check out…
…to contact people in your area.
As global disaster looms, politicians and financiers are falling over each other to resuscitate the same doomed economic system that has driven us to the edge of environmental meltdown. Join us in taking action for climate justice!

TALK / BOOK EVENT
‘London Stories: Personal Lives, Public Histories’
with Hilda Kean
Saturday 29th August – 5pm till 6.30pm
Housmans are proud to welcome Hilda Kean, whose book ‘London Stories: Personal Lives, Public Histories’ debunks the melodramatic and romantic clichés that pervade popular conceptions of working-class Londoners in the 19th and 20th centuries.
She will be recounting stories of muted historical figures, including an illiterate silk weaver, a grandmother in an asylum, a deserted family, an abused daughter, and a dead child, whose lives intertwine to evoke a haunting and original picture of working-class London that adds a much-needed, though bleak, facet to the city’s social history.
Part of Housmans’ ‘London’s Burning’ series – see www.housmans.com/events.php
