This week, we’re urging activists in Dorset to reclaim the promenade following the news that Bournemouth cops are hiding behind beach huts to catch cyclists breaking the speed limit. Also, congratulations to our bovine comrades for a successful direct action on Saturday and for forcing David Blunkett to admit that ‘even the animals hate us’. We’re inviting the one ton cow that charged him to convene a tactical workshop. Vegans only. Meanwhile, back at the farm…

So welcome to the dole queue lads, we will send you a couple of half empty beer cans after the party. Good riddance FIT & don’t come back!

FITwatch can have a downside. Blocking cameras can result in assaults by the police and sometimes serious charges. Therefore funding is needed to clear a lot of debt, as well as legal support.

Saturday 13 June 2009 12pm noon
Upper St, N1, Outside Angel Station

Open-air rally with speeches from anti-racist groups across London, uniting to take a common stand in defence of migrant workers and asylum seekers.

Please come along and bring speeches, music, chants, literature. Add your voice and help us speak out againt racism.

Public rally outside Angel Tube station, Islington, London N1

‘The message is clear – whether you’re a visa overstayer, a foreign criminal or a failed asylum seeker, the UK Border Agency is determined to track you down and remove you from Britain.’ Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, 18 March 2009

Racism is the form which national oppression takes within an imperialist country like Britain. Imperialist nations brutally exploit and impoverish oppressed nations, justifying their plunder and wars on the basis that people in these countries are inferior or have brought their oppression on themselves. They then use immigration laws to keep out people fleeing from the resulting war and poverty. The British working class is encouraged to see immigrants as the cause of its problems rather than capitalism. State racism and divide-and-rule government tactics are creating a fertile recruiting ground for overtly racist parties like the British National Party.

As Britain’s capitalist crisis increases its hold, the Labour government is stepping up its offensive against migrants and state racism is on the rise.

• Immigration detention capacity has increased from just 250 spaces in 1993 to 3,038 spaces with plans in the pipeline to increase the detention estate by 60% by 2012. Foreign nationals in criminal prisons are currently being moved into designated ‘ghetto’ prisons.
• In November 2008, Immigration Minister Phil Woolas boasted that the government is deporting immigrants at a rate of one every eight minutes. It is making increasing use of charter flight mass deportations.
• Ten years after the McPherson Inquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence branded the Metropolitan Police ‘institutionally racist’, black people are still seven times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people are.
• Anti-terrorism laws are being indiscriminately used to round up Muslim and Asian people and criminalise their communities. On 8 April 12 innocent Pakistani students were arrested on the pretext they were planning a bombing campaign. When it became apparent they were innocent they were handed over to the Borders Agency to be detained pending deportation.
So just as the Home Secretary’s message is clear, ours must be too.

Saturday June 13, 2009 from 3:00pm – 5:30pm
Hyde Park
London, England

On Saturday 13 June 2009 the sixth London Naked Bike Ride will return to the streets of the capital, allowing riders to see the city sights from the comfort of a bike or skates. The ride is easy and upbeat, and riders decorate their bodies and bikes with messages of protest against oil dependency and car culture.

Time: 3pm assembly (for 3.30pm departure)
Location: South-east corner of Hyde Park, by the Achilles statue, near Hyde Park Corner.

There’s a Facebook Event here:

Or see:
see and for detailed info.

2009 will be the sixth year of London’s participation in the World Naked Bike Ride. Numbers of riders have risen each year – 2004 had 58 riders in Hyde Park, 2005 had 250 riders in the central London streets, 2006 had 800, and 2007 and 2008 had 1,000.

Every year, in cities around the world, people will be riding naked to celebrate cycling and the human body. The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against oil dependency.

Be there, as bare as you dare!

Saturday 13th June – 5pm

The International School for Bottom-up Organizing (ISBO) launch their first book, sharing their work in training Revolutionary Organizers, creating and supporting radical grassroots projects across the Americas, and building powerful relationships of solidarity. From a rural Social Action Research Centre and Palenques in Colombia, to the poor Black community of the Lower Ninth Ward in post-Katrina New Orleans, ISBO is organizing and seeking out radical folk passionate and deeply committed to creating a new world from the Bottom Up!

A founding statement by the ISBO puts it thus: “Ours is an international struggle that must be led by the poorest and darkest, especially women. We all need the same freedom and equality; we all have the same oppressors, worldwide. Our movement will work toward an internationalist, egalitarian world. We foresee a world in which the genius and creativity of humanity is unleashed, in which all humans share and share alike, whether in starvation or in plenty: in which we are free to love and truly take care of one another.”

This evening London-based members of ISBO will be discussing their work and launching their first book ‘The Bottom Will Rise and Create a New World’.

Yes, our rolling free film programme continues this month with 56a presentation of a recently made fil about Lucio, an anarchist bankrobber, kidnapper and bricklayer. Full Unemployment Cinema also present Pitfall, a marvellous 1960’s Japanese classic.

– TUESDAY 16th June 7.30pm: ‘Lucio’ (2007)

‘Urtubia Lucio has devoted his entire life to anarchism. He collaborated with Che Guevara, robbed Citibank of 3,000 million pesetas, has been involved in notorious kidnapping … all without missing a day at his job as a bricklayer.’

– SUNDAY 21st June 5pm: (Changed from earlier advertised 3pm!!)
Full Unemployment Cinema at 56a – ‘PITFALL’, Hiroshi Teshigahara (1962)

Based on the experimental fiction of postwar novelist Kobo Abe, Pitfall is a haunting, spare, and elemental, yet surreal and atmospheric portrait of alienation. Teshigahara weaves actual footage of coal miners and their hungry and desperate families into Pitfall to establish his sympathy for the workers, but do not expect a neo-realist call to arms.

Free. All Welcome

Location to be confirmed…
19th – 21st June 2009

A weekend of free workshops, discussions and skillsharing focusing on issues relating to housing and squatting is being planned for mid-June. The London FreeSchool will be occupying an empty building for the weekend. This is an open project for people to come and get involved in creating a new space from the beginning. It will hopefully include workshops relating to opening/fixing squats, housing rights and gentrification.

For this to be successful we need people… So, if you are skilled in the art of lockpicking, enjoy fixing toilets, have loads of knowledge relating to housing co-ops or anything else that is vaguely relevant that you wish to share we would love to hear from you!

London FreeSchool aims to confront the hierachy and inequality that dominates learning. It stems from a belief that the control and institutionalisation of education is wrong and as communities we need to reclaim knowledge in order to develop self-reliance. It is a collectively run project open to all so come get involved…

or text ‘freeschool’ to 07905 774 037
for more information including the location which should be announced on the 19th!
