fake firemen and paparazzi for breakfast

Oh yeah,
It has been a dramatic past week at rampART. There was a pathetic attempt by the so-called owners to repossess. We’re still here! It was quite a scene and great to see so many people come out and help us keep the building. Inspiring. We are open and active, and the situation continues to be exciting.

We want to have as many people in the building as we can in order to discourage another eviction attempt. If you can help with an occupation rota, or want to give us your phone number to be added to an eviction alert phone tree, please get in contact with us at rampart@mutualaid.org

G20 APPROACHING
Preparations continue for protests to “welcome” the arrival of the leaders at the G20 summit in London. rampART is hosting organisational meetings/workshops for the housing ‘black horse’ procession, one of the 4 marches which will converge on the Bank of England on the 1st of April. Next meeting 19 March, 8pm, first floor at rampART.

G20 CAFE AT RAMPART
We will be running an on-going cafe during the G20, from 26 March to 3 April, open from 2-10pm. This will serve as an info point, with various workshops, screenings and who knows what else.

REEL NEWS at The Foundry this Sunday, March 22nd; 6:30pm – FREE

BUILDING FOR THE G20 AND NATO SUMMIT PROTESTS
The G20 in London looks set to be marked by the largest and most significant anti-capitalist protests here for 10 years. This is then followed by protests at the NATO summit in Strasbourg from April 2nd – 5th which is looking equally large and militant.

With this in mind, we’ll have the latest info on the protests, how you can get involved, activists present from the various groups involved facilitating discussion and showing the following films:

THE GREAT TRADE ROBBERY
A short animation from the World Development Movement showing the unfairness of the current situation.

CLIMATE CAMP: KINGSNORTH
The climate camp will be setting up camp in the city during the G20 summit. This film shows what happened at Kingsnorth coal fired power station last year.

WATERFORD CRYSTAL: UNDER OCCUPATION
So your factory is shutting down, your job’s gone and you’re being told there’s nothing you can do? Last week we visited the workers at Waterford Crystal glass factory in Ireland, who refused to accept their factory being shut and are now in their seventh week of occupation, with substantial gains already.

GENOVA LIBERA
The most infamous European anticapitalist protest in history, as 300,000 protestors from across the world stood firm against a cowardly and violent attempt to shut down the anticapitalist movement.

We’ll be taking a collection and messages of support for the Waterford workers and for the workers at Prisme factory in Dundee who are also in occupation – see you on Sunday, and then see you in the streets!

Ravens Island Thames Occupied as Eco Action

Due to the need for urgent environmental action. We have occupied an island in The Thames. In these times of rising tides and melting ice shelves, we thought we should get a bit closer to studying the watery world and its rise.

Ravens Ait Island is a unique wedding and conference centre with halls, many rooms, workshop spaces, kitchens and gardens. On an enchanting island in The Thames near Kingston, (opposite Hampton Court). Which we are transforming into an Eco Conference Centre. Come visit, help, book in to run a skill sharing workshop and put it on the timetable. Network it. There will be an ongoing discussion here “how do we find SOLUTIONS to the environmentally critical situation we face?”

Ravens Ait Island, Portsmouth Road, Surbiton, Surrey KT6 4HN. Opposite Catherine’s Road, Kingston British Rail or Surbiton BR. (From Kingston BR turn right to Kingston Bridge, turn left at beginning of bridge and walk down Thames footpath on the same side as Kingston BR for 10 minutes until you reach London River Yacht Club. You will see the Island Ring us on 07769 791 387 or 07900 800 055 to let us know you are coming and to arrange a boat to pick you up.

Please go to this link for map

-= WEDNESDAY 1ST APR =-

BANQUET AT THE BANK

12 noon, April 1st, Bank of England. Thread Needle Street

Bring friends and family food to share.

Come celebrate the future: a world no longer led by fools, a world without war, unemployment, home repossessions or self-inflicted climate chaos.

Music, theatre, and a convergence of communities.

The bankers, politicians and their corporate cronies made the foolish mess we’re in. Only we the people can sort things out. Seize the day. Close your business, take a day off work and come out to play your part.

Meet 11.00am at either Moorgate, Canning St, Liverpool St or London Bridge Railway station to move off at 11.30am. Four carnival horsefolk of the apocalypse parades will proceed to the belly of the beast: The Bank of England. PS: Calling on all policefolk: call a sickie on 1st April.

1st April 2009 is the 360th Anniversary, and so we are going full circle with the Diggers and the beginnings of their short lived, but ever inspiring revolutionary commune on St Georges Hill.

Join us as we resurrect their memory and relevance today, ‘Full Circle Theatre at the Bank of England!
